English is not my first language. Can I still teach abroad or online?

Some schools and online teaching companies insist on candidates being citizens of countries where English is the main language, such as the USA, Canada, England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

If you are not from one of these countries, you may receive a notice saying you don't meet the minimum requirements when you apply for a job.

But there are plenty of exciting teach abroad destinations that want fluent English speakers from all corners of the world such as Cambodia, Mexico, Thailand, Brazil, and Turkey.

If you are concerned about your eligibility, we would advise you to visit the Embassy or Consulate websites of the countries you are interested in visiting to ensure you will be granted a work visa as an English teacher.

Please note that Teach Away does not have control over any visa restrictions a country may have.
