# What are the requirements to teach English online?

## Prerequisites for teaching online.

Requirements to teach online will vary according to which online teaching company you work for.

However, we find that the majority of companies insist that candidates at least hold a bachelor's degree (in any subject).

Other common requirements include holding an ESL certification (such as [TEFL](https://www.teachaway.com/courses/online-tefl-certification)) and having one year of teaching experience.

Learn more about the requirements to teach online by reading the job posts from online teaching companies that are advertising on our [job board](https://www.teachaway.com/online-teaching-jobs) right now.
